As Arkansas’ Veteran Suicide Intervention Team, We Are the 22 has a laser focus on peer-to-peer, face-to-face intervention with veterans in suicidal crisis. Our two-man teams of veteran volunteer Responders immediately go to the veteran in crisis upon receiving an alert. With an operating memorandum of understanding with the Central Arkansas Veterans Health Care Center and cooperative relationships with law enforcement organizations around the state, we have very literally saved over 300 lives.

Our name comes from the governmental research that indicates 22 veterans commit suicide every day. The need is real and our interventions are effective. In 2018, there were 547 suicides in Arkansas. That is more than double the number of homicides. Veterans commit suicide at roughly twice the rate of non-veterans.
